Stretch Marks Treatment: Red and White Striae

Stretch marks (striae) are not the same as surgical or injury scars. They are dermal changes associated with rapid growth, pregnancy, weight change, genetic factors and sometimes hormonal influences.

Red and white stretch marks

Newer striae may appear red or purple, while older striae are usually lighter and more mature. Their age and colour affect treatment choice and expected response.

Why do stretch marks form?

Mechanical stretching contributes, but connective-tissue characteristics and hormonal factors also matter. Sudden or unusually widespread striae may warrant medical review.

Treatment options

Selected patients may be considered for fractional laser, microneedling or RF microneedling. Early red striae and older white striae may require different approaches. No procedure reliably erases stretch marks completely.

Fractional CO2 laser

Fractional resurfacing creates controlled microscopic treatment zones and may improve texture in selected mature striae. Settings should be adjusted to skin type, body area and pigment risk.

Microneedling and RF microneedling

These methods can stimulate dermal remodelling. Treatment intensity and session number depend on depth, width, site and healing response.

Risks

Temporary redness, swelling, crusting and colour change can occur. Careful parameter selection and sun protection are especially important in pigment-prone skin.

Stretch marks versus scars

For surgical, traumatic, hypertrophic or keloid scars, see Scar Treatment.

What Affects Stretch Marks Treatment Cost in Izmir?

Stretch-marks treatment cost depends on the age, colour, width and depth of the striae and on the size of the body area being treated. A small localized area and widespread abdominal, thigh or hip striae do not require the same procedure time or treatment coverage.

The method selected, treatment area, fractional laser or microneedling settings, anesthesia or comfort measures, number of sessions and whether treatment is staged can all affect the overall treatment scope. Newer red striae and older white striae may also require different approaches rather than one identical protocol.

Personal cost information is provided after the stretch marks, skin type, treatment area and appropriate method are assessed.

What is realistic?

A reasonable goal is gradual improvement in colour, depth and textural contrast. Complete disappearance cannot be guaranteed.

Red and white stretch marks respond differently

Striae rubrae are newer red-purple stretch marks, while striae albae are older, paler lesions. Pregnancy, growth, rapid weight change and corticosteroid exposure can contribute to dermal stretching and collagen change.

Fractional laser and microneedling-based treatments aim to improve color and texture rather than guarantee complete removal; response depends on age, location, skin type and stretch-mark stage.
